New Stills from ‘The Avengers’ Look a Little More Cheesy and a Little Less Epic

Captain America Leads Hawkeye and Black Widow in the fight against Loki.

Check out these new stills from the upcoming film The Avengers directed by Joss Whedon. When the first Iron Man film, starring Robert Downey Jr., first hit theaters, I couldn’t wait to see The Avengers film. Sam Jackson showing up at the end as Nick Fury was great. Then my desire to see the film started to fade when Iron Man 2 was released.

Now, after last year’s superhero disappointment, I’m a little more standoffish on seeing this team-up flick. Thor, starring Chris Hemsworth, was “meh” at best. Captain America: The First Avenger was an “okay” movie, but it served as little more than a prequel. Thankfully, Marvel’s The Avengers has nothing to do DC Comics’ Green Lantern film, which easily took worst superhero flick of 2011.

What I would like to see is a Hawkeye film that focuses solely ...

M watches over MI6 with her flashy Sony Vaio in latest 007 film, Skyfall.

The Skyfall production team continues to tease US audiences with more behind-the-scenes photos from the upcoming James Bond 007 movie.

This latest photo features Judi Dench as M, alongside director Sam Mendes. Check out the photo below of Dench using a Sony Vaio. Who knew MI6 had such a love for Sony equipment. Perhaps in the next round of photos, Daniel Craig (who will be starring as Bond for the third time) will be holding up a PS Vita.

Blu-ray Review: J. Edgar (Starring Leonardo Dicaprio & Armie Hammer)

By Bags Hooper

J. Edgar may not have taken home any Academy Award nominations, but the film does deserve special accolades for Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance. I can’t say that I’m a fan of younger actors who put on makeup to look much older. Usually the illusion takes away from the film. However, in this case, DiCaprio does a stellar job of playing the dual role of a younger insecure J. Edgar and the older J. Edgar shrouded in lies and cover-ups. The biopic tried to expand on the FBI director’s personal life, while simultaneously exploring J. Edgar’s philosophy on secrecy. However, in trying to do both, it fell short of doing either equally well.

The film explores J. Edgar’s relationship with his mother as well as his closest colleague Clyde Tolson (Armie Hammer). The story spans the FBI director’s fifty years of service to the nation, starting with his humble beginnings. ...

Blu-ray Review: Tower Heist (Starring Ben Stiller & Eddie Murphy)

By Bags Hooper
Posted: Feb 21, 2012

Eddie Murphy’s original idea to unite several black comics on screen becomes a mediocre crime comedy in Tower Heist. This one-time watch popcorn flick has a few laughs thanks to lesser-known actors like Casey Affleck and Michael Peña. Murphy appears in rear form, sidestepping the past ten years of slapstick comedic roles for a straight character. Although he only takes center stage for a small part of the movie, it’s the segment with the most laughs. Murphy helps to bolster the energy whenever Matthew Broderick tries to suck the life out of the heist with his Debbie downer performance. When you’re not distracted by Gabourey Sidibe’s bad Jamaican accent or the odd romance that buds between Ben Stiller and Téa Leoni, you may even find yourself enjoying this Tower Heist. The Blu-ray comes with a few bonus features that warrant watching, especially two alternative endings that seem better than the ...

Movie Review: ‘The Secret World of Arrietty’ Is Too Big To Let Slip Through The Floorboards

By Ernie Estrella
Posted: Feb 19, 2012

There’s no doubt that animated films wowed us in recent months. Films like The Adventures of Tintin and Rango were impressive in every way and to compare The Secret World of Arrietty is simply unfair because it’s the antithesis to those other films; yes, it’s animated too but where many animated films make sure that no stone goes unturned, giving us everything we could dream of, Arrietty still leaves plenty to the imagination. It’s the type of story that makes you ask what or who is living under your home. It makes you look at your light sockets differently or maybe that crack in your kitchen baseboard. And maybe, it makes you look at yourself in the mirror a little differently too.

Our story introduces us to the Clock family, four-inch tall species of humans called Borrowers who live underneath the floorboards. The protagonist is a young girl named Arrietty (Bridgit ...

‘The Secret World of Arrietty’ Captured Clip – ‘The Littl’ Bits’ Mixed with ‘An American Tail’

If you’re a fan of Anime classics like Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle or Princess Mononoke, then you will definitely want to check out The Secret World of Arrietty. The animated film from Disney, features the voices of Bridgit Mendler, Amy Poehler, Carol Burnett, Will Arnett, David Henrie, and Moises Arias.

The premise of the story (little people who live beneath the floorboards) reminds me of the 80s cartoon The Littl’ Bits mixed with a touch of An American Tail.

Speaking of Fievel Mousekewitz, in this latest clip from The Secret World of Arrietty, one of the little people is yanked up from her world by her tail – except she doesn’t have a tail since she’s not a mouse. You’ll see what I mean.

Sony Plugs PS Vita in ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ Trailer

By Bags Hooper

Sony may think it’s being slick with this new trailer for Resident Evil: Retribution, but it’s hard to miss the egregious product promotion used in the first 30 seconds of the 1:15 video.

You’ll see numerous Sony handheld devices, the second of which is Sony’s new PS Vita handheld gaming system. I couldn’t watch the trailer without being reminded of the first Michael Bay Transformers movie and all of the close-ups on the Ford logo.

Resident Evil: Retribution stars Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory, Kevin Durand, Shawn Roberts, Colin Salmon, Johann Urb, Boris Kodjoe, and Li Bing Bing.

See ‘True Blood’ Star Ryan Kwanten & ‘Entourage’s’ Jerry Ferrara in ’7500′ Trailer

By Bags Hooper
Posted: Feb 16, 2012

This new trailer for 7500 feels like a combination of Lost meets Final Destination.

The new Horror/Thriller has a rich roster of actors from some of cable TV’s hottest shows, including: Amy Smart (Showtime’s Shameless, Robot Chicken), Ryan Kwanten (HBO’s True Blood, New Girl), Jerry Ferrara (HBO’s Entourage) and Leslie Bibb (FX’s The League). It also features Jamie Chung (The Hangover Part II, Castle, Grey’s Anatomy), Nicky Whelan (Hall Pass) and Christian Serratos (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1).

While it may freak you out if you already have a fear of flying, you may still dig the creepy remix to “I’m leaving on a jet plane” playing in the background.

7500 is directed by Takashi Shimzu. It comes to theaters on August 31, 2012.

Watch the trailer below:

7500 concerns a group of passengers who encounter what appears to be a supernatural force while on a transpacific ...
